Oil Tank Modifications, General Mills - Buffalo, NY
Structural Engineering | Civil Engineering
Watts prepared drawings and specifications for bidding to construct a concrete containment for a bulk oil truck unloading facility at the Michigan Avenue General Mills Plant in Buffalo. The existing unloading containment did not meet the storage volume requirement of 40 CFR 112.7 and the reinforced concrete structure was modified to provide adequate capacity for a 7,000 gallon delivery truck of No. 6 fuel oil. The containment construction involved partial demolition of the existing loading ramp and construction of a new reinforced concrete sump with structural steel grating. The sump pit drain was tied to the existing plant wastewater treatment system to separate petroleum from the storm drainage. Watts provided construction period services to assist with the unforeseen weak soils, piping, and other subsurface conditions.
